What veneers are and how they are fitted

Veneers are good because they can significantly improve the appearance of your teeth, giving you an even and whiter smile. They effectively hide imperfections such as stains, chips, irregularities or gaps between teeth. The placement of veneers is a relatively quick procedure compared to orthodontic treatment, and the results are visible immediately. They are also resistant to staining and retain their colour for a long time, providing a long-lasting effect. Veneers are made from durable materials such as porcelain or composite material, making them long-lasting with proper care. In addition, veneers can improve tooth function by helping in evenly distributing the chewing load.

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin plates that are placed on the front surface of the teeth to improve their appearance. They can be made of various materials, such as composite resins or ceramic, and serve to correct aesthetic imperfections of the teeth.

Veneers are used for:

  • to correct the shape and size of teeth;
  • tooth discolouration;
  • repairing gaps between teeth;
  • to repair damaged teeth.

Types of veneers:

  • porcelain veneers - made of high quality porcelain, which imitates the natural shine of teeth.They have high strength and durability.Less susceptible to staining than composite veneers.
  • Composite veneers - made from composite resins that are applied and formed directly onto the teeth.The placement process usually takes less time and can be completed in a single visit.May be less durable and more susceptible to staining than porcelain veneers.
Veneers significantly improve the appearance of teeth and the smile as a whole.Veneers require minimal tooth preparation.With proper care, veneers can last for many years.Porcelain veneers are particularly resistant to staining from food and drink.

How veneers are placed

Setup vinir - it is a multi-step process that includes a few visits to the dentist.
Here are the basic steps of veneer placement:

Counselling and treatment planning:
  • At the first visit, the dentist assesses the condition of the teeth and determines whether veneers are suitable for the individual patient.
  • Patient expectations and options for improving the appearance of the teeth are discussed.
  • X-rays are taken and possibly dental impressions are taken for further analysis.

Dental preparation:
  • In the next step, the dentist prepares the teeth for the veneers. To do this, a thin layer of enamel (about 0.3-0.7 mm) is removed from the front surface of the teeth to create a space for the veneers.
  • In some cases, if the enamel has not been significantly damaged, minimal or even no preparation may be necessary.

Creation of temporary veneers:
  • After the teeth are prepared, an impression is taken and sent to a dental laboratory for the fabrication of the permanent veneers.
  • While the patient is waiting for permanent veneers to be fabricated, temporary veneers may be placed to protect the teeth and maintain aesthetics.

Placement of permanent veneers:
  • When the permanent veneers are ready, the patient comes in for their next visit.
  • The dentist tries on the veneers, checks their colour and shape. If necessary, the veneers can be adjusted.
  • The teeth are then cleaned and prepared for adhesive bonding.
  • A special adhesive is applied to the surface of the tooth, after which the veneers are fixed in place.
  • The dentist uses a special lamp to cure the adhesive, which ensures that the veneers are firmly bonded to the teeth.

Final touches and polishing:
  • After the veneers are placed, a final bite correction is made, if necessary.
  • Veneers are polished to give them a natural shine.

Supervisory visit:
  • A few days after placement, the patient can come in for a follow-up visit to ensure that the veneers are properly fitted and are not causing discomfort.

After veneers are placed, it is important to maintain oral hygiene and visit your dentist regularly to maintain the health of your teeth and the longevity of your veneers.
